Artists invited to paint outdoors at the Ingalls Homestead
BROOKINGS, S.D. — The second annual Harvey Dunn Memorial Society Plein Air event will be held Friday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 15 at the Ingalls Homestead located one mile southeast of De Smet. Artists of all levels of experience are encouraged to participate.
Plein air, which means “open air” in French, lets artists create their own masterpieces outdoors. An informal gathering for artists will be held Friday evening on the porch of the Ingalls Homestead. Artists can set up and begin painting on Friday or anytime Saturday. The event concludes with an evening wine and cheese reception at the Homestead on Saturday.
All artists can exhibit and sell paintings throughout the event. A “Wet Sale,” held on Sunday at the Homestead, will let artists sell their newly created work. In the event of inclement weather, the sale will move to the De Smet Super Deluxe Inn and Suites.
The event is open to the public with no admission and free registration for the artists.
Interested artists should contact the Laura Ingalls Wilder Society to register by calling at 800-880-3383 or emailing <laura.discoverlaura.org>.
The Harvey Dunn Memorial Society, Ingalls Homestead, Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society and the South Dakota Art Museum are sponsoring the event.
